During the morning of the Day of Syn 2006 a battle between the smugglers and the soldiers took place on the beach.

The Day of Syn takes place in Dymchurch, Kent, on August Bank Holiday Monday every other year. It commemorates the Doctor Syn novels written by Russell Thorndike. In the novels Dr Syn was a late 18th century Vicar of Dymchurch by day but by night he was the smugglers' leader, the Scarecrow.
